Not sure where he gets them (yet), but my neighbor gets cedar stock and cuts into thin planks....soaks them in water....and then stores them until ready to grill fish on them. He says the taste is outstanding!

I like to use them also, the ones you buy in walmart are A little thin and don't absorb alot of water so they do end up burning after a couple uses...... But man cedar plank salmon is the BoMB!!!

I haven't tried using them yet, sounds like I need to. We used to joke about the way to cook carp. You fillet the carp, place the fillet on a plank, garnish it with lemon slices and pepper, bake it for 45 minutes on 350 degrees, remove from the oven, scrape the carp off the board into the trash and eat the board. Redbeard ;D

It is definitely cheaper to buy an 8' board and cut it to size when you need it than buy the ones in the grocery store. Either way it is a great way to grill or bake fish!
Try soaking the plank in water and cheap white wine for more flavor. The alcohol will burn off and leave a great floral citrus flavor.
