It's time for the staff meeting of Florida Fly Fishing Magazine.
One thing I really like about working in the hook & bullet industry is that when you have things like staff meetings, conventions, and such, they usually follow a similar itinerary to this one: 3 days of smoking, drinking, and fishing on the beach at Sanibel-Captiva bracketed on either side by several days of fishing in the surrounding area.
The work can be grueling at times. Last year I actually got tendonitis in my casting arm.
I'm thinking about offering some hosted trips to a few different destinations in FL for guided kayak fishing and flats boat charters with guides and Captains I've fished with for years, lodging I've actually stayed in, etc. These would not be marked up at all, but the guides and Captains routinely pay a small % of their usual rate for these reservations. This is usual and customary in the industry. It basically covers my gas down and back unless it's a long trip for a big group. Then it might cover my meal bill.
If any of y'all are interested in something like that, please post here and let me know. I just want to see if there is some regional interest. I've got several people from elsewhere who want to do it. We're talking destinations from 4 to 8 hours drive time from Savannah with world-famous snook, tarpon, trout, permit, and peacock bass fishing (primary targets) on both the east and west coasts of FL. Trips would range from $150 to $400/day per person including at least lodging and guided fishing for 2 or more. Solos would be $150 to $600/day including lodging and guided fishing. Numbers are subject to change, of course.
I can also do trips to the Bahamas for Bonefish, Argentina for trout and Dorado, Costa Rica for tarpon and permit, Belize for Bones and Permit, and British Columbia for Steelhead and Salmon. But I have not personally been to ALL of those places...only a few. And they're more expensive, of course. LOL
