CGKF members made a great showing at the Jax Classic this year.
Redbeard came in 3rd place in the flounder division and Troutman caught a nice slam, but didn't get him into the prizes. Nubby, Backlash4000, Osprey and I caught several nice fish, but nothing big enough for prizes. There were about 400 participants in the tournament and all the money raised went to great charities! Drew Gregory from RiverBassin.com fished with us today and caught very nice fish to place around 6th in the slam division, he's a great guy and fisherman. He's the guy that was attacked by a goose while Kayak fishing (he was on National news for the event, you can see the video on youtube).
We pre-fished a couple days and did very well. I wish we would have caught the fish we caught on previous days.
We'll post pics and videos by late tomorrow of some of our fish.

Well it was a great tournament. All of those from CGKF had a great time in Jacksonville. FOUR days of fishing. I am staying down tonight and will return tomorrow sometime. While I am feeling sorry for the others heading back tonight. I believe that Redbeard is staying over and will head home tomorrow also. DRIVE SAFELY. Like 3 spots said I will post some pictures when I return home.

I'll let Troutman tell his story when he has recovered emotionally from the loss.

This tournament and the whole trip was one of the most enjoyable fishing trips that I have ever made. I have fished the Classic five times now and usually by myself. This year, having the gang from CGKF there to fish with and hang around with made the trip for me. Capt. Mike Kogan said it best last year when he said its not so much the competition as it is the world's largest kayak fishing party!!! Having friends there to share the fun just made it better. You don't really think about winning when you go there, just having fun. This year, winning the third place flounder division was a real surprise and I don't think I stopped grinning until after I got home! I owe Dan (Osprey) a real thanks for encouraging me to turn in my photos. I almost got out of line because I didn't think I had a chance. Winning was great, but again, the real prize was the time spent with the best friends a guy could ask for. It sure makes me proud to be a part of Coastal Georgia Kayak Fishing.
For anyone reading this that has not had the chance to participate in this tournament, start saving your money now for next year's tournament!!! I am!!!! You owe it to yourself to go next year and fish with the CGKF gang. If you go one time, you won't want to miss it again! We were well represented this year and made a good showing. Next year, we want to fill up a couple of tables and maybe take home a kayak or two!!!
I especially want to thank Capt. Tony Bozella for putting us on some good fish. The big fish were there, if we couldn't get them in the boat, it was our own fault (Troutman!!!.....forgetting the net, hmph!!!!!). Thaks again Capt. Tony!!!!
Thanks guys for the great time we had. Looking forward to it again next year!!!!

Well as previously mention I believe it is safe to say that all had a great and wonderful time in Jacksonville this past week. I for one learn a lot and enjoyed just being on the water. Here are a couple of pictures that were taken during the event: Our founder and owner of Fish My Yak: Our expert and third place in the flounder division Redbeard: One of our Pro angler Hobie Kevin "Troutman": Our other Pro angler Backlash4000 Jeff: Our member representative Osprey: And yours truly coming in after fighting 60 mph winds and rain: The tournament was great and a lot of big fish were caught. The results are: 406 entrants 14 slams winning slam: Red 30.2"; Trout 15.0"; Flounder 15.9"; Total 61.10". Redfish: 34.5" Trout: 28.1" Flounder: 19.2" Over $33,000.00 raised for the Down Syndrom Assoc. and the Guy Harvey Foundation.
