We are getting closer to having some dates nailed down for some basic land based instructional kayak fishing seminars soon. They will be free to participants. Capt. Ray Golden with Coffee Bluff Marina has graciously volunteered to host at his facility when ever we'd like (Thank you Ray). The dates will be announced within a few days. Come and check it out and bring some friends that you'd like to get involved in kayak fishing.
We'll have various kayak anglers giving segments of the seminar, just so you don't have to listen to me the whole time.
Remember, these instructions will pretty much be basic entry level stuff, but a few tips and tricks may be slipped out with the proper attendance and motivation.

Okay, the seminars are set. Here are the announcements in the Coffee Bluff Marina News.


On February 19th, May 28th, August 27th, and December 10th, Coffee Bluff Marina will be host to a Kayak Fishing Seminar - Introduction to Basic Kayak Fishing. This 2 hour seminar is free to anyone who wishes to attend, and will be designed to teach the participants entry level information about kayaking and fishing from a kayak. You do not need to have a kayak, nor do you need to bring any fishing gear. All instruction will take place at Coffee Bluff Marina, and no water instruction will be given. This is a "dry" seminar. The seminar will be held in conjunction with Coastal Georgia Kayak Fishing, and you can view their website by clicking on this link - www.coastalgeorgiakayakfishing.com - If you are interested in participating, seats are limited, so please call to reserve your space. Remember, this seminar is free, but you need to call and reserve seating. The seminar begins at 12 noon, and will be completed by 2 pm...2 hours.



On March 26th, June 11th, and September 24th, Coffee Bluff Marina will hold a Kayak Fishing Seminar - Intermediate Level. This is a 4 hour seminar that goes over 3 main criteria for catching fish out of a kayak. First, we will go over proper bait and lure selection for targeting redfish, speckled trout, and flounder. We cover this while on land at the marina. We then put the kayaks into the water and paddle down to where we will show you the second factor, which is where to find these fish, what type of habitat they prefer, and why they hang on these various structures. Finally, now that you know what to use and where to use it, we will go over the third important step, which is how to properly present the bait or lure to the fish to target and catch that species. The cost for the seminar is $35 per person. If you do not have a kayak, we will provide one at 50% off normal kayak rental rates, which is an additonal $15 for the use of a kayak. Your $35 fee for the seminar includes lunch back at the marina. On April 16th and October 1st, Coffee Bluff Marina will be host to a Kayak Fishing Seminar - Advanced Level. This is a mothership guided kayak fishing seminar. The Flats Fishing with a Kayak series will be held in April, while the Grass Fishing with a Kayak series will be held in October. We will depart Coffee Bluff Marina by boat, carrying you and your kayaks to the flats or the grass to sightcast redfish. The cost for each participant is $100, and seats are extremely limited. The fee includes the mothership trip by powerboat, and a guide throughout the fishing trip. If you do not possess a kayak, Coffee Bluff Marina will provide one at 50% off normal rental rates, which will be $15 for half-day. The seminar will be held in conjunction with Coastal Georgia Kayak Fishing, and you can view their website by clicking on this link - www.coastalgeorgiakayakfishing.com. Finally, on Saturday, June 18th, Coffee Bluff Marina will be host to a Kayak Fishing Seminar - Extreme Fishing Level. This seminar will take you and your kayaks to the deep for some big game, offshore fishing! The fee is $180 per person, and seats are extremely limited. We'll depart the marina at 6:30 am, and head out to the deep to do some kayak fishing for big game such as king mackerel, amberjack, barricuda, and anything else that can pull your kayak in various directions! The fee covers your boat ride out to the deep, and your guide who will also accompany you. Bring your own kayak, or you can rent one from Coffee Bluff Marina for 50% off an all day rate, which will be $25. This will be the only Extreme Level Seminar offered this year.

As a Club/Group, it would be nice to have as many "YAK ANGLERS" participate as possible, maybe not host the seminars as I know all may not feel comfortable or are as knowlegdeable as others but to support the Community as well as to show others the growth that this sport has made over the last few years.......I know that work may get in the way for some, but please come out and support CGKF as well as Coffee Bluff Marina and the Sport that we all share Passion for.....C ya there!
