I've been wanting to kayak fish for several years now and after losing my Grady White in a violent storm (divorce) I bought my Outback and love it. I'm pretty happy with how it's rigged so far but I'm curious how others like to carry their live shrimp and fiddlers. Also, do y'all really get use out of a fish finder/plotter? I couldn't get along without one on my boat but I'm on the fence about adding one to the kayak. Any comments or suggestion are appreciated.

welcome to the new addiction and sorry about the storm. as for live bait, when i do use it. i use a frabill tag along for shrimp and mud minnows. and rest of the time artificial baits. as for the fishfinder/plotter. only time i use one is in fresh water looking for structure. i just put a new raymarine dragonfly 5 on my moken and really like it. the group is on FB to if you are on it

I'll try the fraybill. I've never done much freshwater fishing since I was younger but really have a craving to fish for bream and crappie. Hoping to spend some vacation days next week on Ebenezer Creek. What do you think? Too early? Probably going to hold off on the FF. Went out yesterday out of Diamond Causway hoping to stumble on some trout but only thing I was able to fight was the wind and tide. Ha. But it was still a great day to be on the water. Coming back in at dead low was interesting. Low tide at the beach area there is nothing but slick mud.

I like your setup. I don't use live bait much, but when I do I use some kind of flow troll bucket. For fiddlers I use whatever. My favorite is the plastic coffee container. The deep finder is super important when looking for deep troughs.

Thanks 3spots. BTW, I really like the modification you did to your Outback. Adding the rectangular hatch that holds the tackle trays in place of the round hatch. That's on my list. I'm getting to old to keep twisting around to get tackle.

no sir not too early at all. crappie are still biting pretty good and will until it gets to hot, but you can still catch them then but you have to go deep. and when the water temps warms up to around 70-75. the bream will be on the beds every 30 days until late October. if your have trouble locating bream use your nose. bream beds put out a sweet scent like watermelon or freshly cutt grass. you will know it when you smell it. if you have your wma stamp. there is a great pfa (public fishing area) in claxton called evan's pfa. BUT YOU MUST HAVE A WMA STAMP. or you will get a ticket. i know the game warden that runs it and he may just give you a warning, here is my cell i also go by rob or robert reid 912-596-0955 and im on facebaook

Just what I needed to hear Rob. I don't have a WMA stamp. I looked on the DNR website for Evans County PFA. Looks like a GORP or fishing license will do. I'm going to call to make sure. I might be heading over there today. What would be your suggestion for bait? Crickets? Worms? Beetle spins? I'll look you up on Facebook. I'm Mark Casper. Always looking for a fishing buddy!
