Alright guys I need some info. Would like to start fly fishing salt water, have done a bunch of freshwater and love it. I take the fly rod every time I head fresh water fishing, 5 wt. . Now what do I need to start Saltwater fishing with out breaking the bank, a decent starter outfit. Rod length, weight, reel, line, fly choices. Thanks for any help.

As long as you're catching trout, the 5 wt. may be sufficient. I use an 8 wt. in case I get the opportunity to cast to redfish. Due to the oysters and grass I use a bend back fly mostly. For reds I like using a small crab or shrimp fly. I'm far from proficient with the long rod. We have other guys on this forum that do much more fly fishing that can guide you better.

Thanks 3 spots for the info, I had figured that the 5 was a little light, I just didn,t know how heavy to go. Weight forward, floating, or sinking line. And also tippet.

Tapered weight forward is always an easy way to go, especially casting in the wind. I like floating line for shallow water reds due to the oyster snags. Sinking line would work well for speckled trout.
