Just remember you get what you pay for. I suggest to look for a used one on Craigslist or on the for sale board on here & do a lot of research. We have a lot of guys on here that would let you paddle or peddle their yak. Savannah Canoe & Kayak hold demo days sometimes also.

I have checked CL. Just nothing in my price range or not really what I am looking for. I understand these are not going to be a Cadillac but that's what I can do right now. It will get me on the water. Anyone try the Ascend?

I paid $700 for my cuda 14 from craigslist in the Macon area! The ascend is a big slow yak plenty of storage but I would recommend spending a couple hundred more for a more reputable kayak

We have some members that paddle an Ascend and although they wish they had a better kayak they are thankful to on the water and kayak fishing. Get what is in your budget. Check the kayak fishing forums, craigslist, and ask around for used kayaks. Even though the quality isn't as good as a bigger name brand, the Ascend will get you into the game and on the water. Leave enough room in your budget for a good PFD, seat, and paddle.

Thanks for the input. I will keep looking. If it comes down to these two I think I will go with the Ascend. I am just ready to get on the water.

Good choice just trying to recommend looking at all options first & demo a couple yaks to see witch options suit you best.

I have paddled a Pescador, and I liked it. If you are a smaller/slight of build guy, it's a pretty good yak for the price. The only complaint I have heard about them is they are a wet ride. That has never bothered me. So 6' or taller, weigh over 220. It might ride real low in the water and be really wet in the seat.
My 2 cents..... $2000+ for a kayak is obscene. Just ridiculous.

I have the ascend fs128t... Yes at times when I'm out I would rather be in something a little sleeker but I took just needed a starter kayak. ... Pretty stable when I'm standing or paddling. ... If you want to spend $50 more than the 12t you can buy mine with a couple added "amenities"

I have a pescador 12, and I am 6'8" about 270#. I like my kayak a lot. Is it the most stable kayak out there? No, but once I gained confidence with it doesn't bother me. I do like the quality of the perception sport builds, and that the design is a proven one (based on the old tarpon from WS).
I have been looking at the reviews to the new redesigned FS12T's, and there seems to be some quality issues with the new redesigned kayaks. The older ones I have not seen any issues with them, and I know several that paddle the old ones and havent heard any complaints about the design.
I feel like as for a first kayak to get into the sport either are a good choice.
Just my 2 cents.

I have a 2010 wilderness systems tarpon I can sell for 500 with paddle and life jacket. It has 3 ram mount rod holders and a fishmyyak.com anchor trolley. It has storage behind the seat. It's the 120 so it's 12 ft and 30 inches wide. It's comfortable but def not a stand on top kayak. Lol it is orange as is the paddle. I have used this thing everywhere with no issues, even offshore. It is much faster than most other kayaks out there and tracks very straight. Hit me up if your interested. I might be able to work out a deal

I too am looking at the ascend and the Pescador. From the comments above it sounds like the ascent is rather bulky. I am 5'9' and 180lbs. I think a 12' yak would be a lot to handle for 4-5 hours at a time. I spend more time on the slow moving rivers and not placid lakes so I will need something a little more agile. Great post though, I will continue to follow this thread!
