The first regional event for our area is in Charleston, SC. on May 4th and then the Georgetown, SC. event is August 17th.
You could also (or instead) fish the Florida East Division in Titusville and Jacksonville.

...and correct me if I am wrong, but they are implementing geographic boundraries this season. I was told it would require fishing waters in the state the event is held.

So that means you can't take your helicopter to Louisiana. Keeps everyone fishing the same waters, for the same fish, and would require the skills to find fish in unfamiliar waters (not just run over to one honey hole a few hours away).
