Anyone in this group ever fished or paddled the Cobra fish and dive kayak? Any info will be appreciated.

I paddled one of my friends in the gulf early this last summer. It's like paddling a tank. I personally wasn't a huge fan but it did get me on the water and fishing. If it's for a good price near the 300 range id pick one up. But if you don't mind driving to pick up a kayak you can find them all over the jax area.

I've never paddled one. They were really popular about 10 years ago, but have declined since the outcome of more fishing specific kayaks. Bwanajim has one I believe.

I believe he does as well. I think he brings it to the hero's on the water events.

A Cobra fish and dive love story!!! A red Cobra fish and dive was my first love in the kayak fishing world. My first exposure to kayak fishing was in Galveston and Corpus Christi in 1998. Back then, Cobra and Ocean Kayak were the only two sit on top kayaks that I knew about. I saw the guys paddling Ocean Kayaks off the beach and in Trinity and Baffin Bays. I was hooked!!! Cobra was the only SOT that I knew about at the time that was designed specifically for fishing. There was a brand new red fish and dive in a shop in Corpus that I fell in love with. I wanted that kayak so bad I could taste it, but I couldn't figure out how to stretch my per diem money thin enough to buy the Cobra and still have anything to eat!!! Never did buy that kayak, but I sure did want to!!! Redbeard

I had a Cobra F&D as my first yak. (I donated mine to Heros on the Water when I upgraded to a Pr Angler). I used it exclusively on lakes and ponds when I lived in PA. For that it was absolutely perfect.
EXTREMELY stable. A bit heavy, but it served me very well for +6 years. Very well made. I am a Big Guy, so the size, stability, and weight capacity were important to me.
When I moved to coastal GA a few years ago, I hit the water on the F&D...and started to see some shortcomings. It certainly does handle like a TANK. Mine did not have a rudder, which may have helped...but I can say that it is a slow and laborious paddle. Kind of like moving a barge.
It wasn't fast on the freshwater in PA, but it was noticeably slower and tougher to maneuver in the coastal waters combatting wind, tides, waves etc.
If you could get one cheap, and it was your only option...it would get the job done. If the budget allows for something else, I would save my pennies and upgrade. There are ALOT of great options out there.
I guess it comes down to where/how you plan to use it, budget, and ability to deal with a little tougher/slower paddle.
Hope that helps!
