Erik asked me to assist him in repairing a leaky keel on a Wilderness Ride 135, I thought, "sure, bring it over and we'll plug it up and you'll be on your way". Yeah, right!! I started melting plastic in the damaged area and danged if the hole got weakened and began to get bigger. Not having a viable way to access the hull to create a back stop, I referenced the old internet. I found a YouTube video that Chad Hoover did a few years and ago. I checked to see if I had the needed materials for this fix, I did, so we commenced. It was a bit daunting at first, but we got over cutting a large section of his keel out (or at least I got over it) to make the repair. Watch the video of what Chad does and that's what we did. The repair looks pretty good and secure. Hopefully Erik will test it soon and report back how it worked.

That looks great. Looking forward to seeing how it does.

Thanks again Trey for your help on that project. Crazy how what we thought was a 5 minute fix turned into 3 hours! I'm glad you were the chief surgeon on the repair...I don't think I would have had the guts to cut the keel off my kayak! Anyway, it looks like it should hold just fine...especially with the special finishing touch of the "secret spray" you put on there. I'll put it in the water this weekend and report back.

Maybe I should try it in my pool before i commit to the bigger water...if the repair fails, there's an awefully big hole there to take on water!

She's watertight! Put the yak in the pool yesterday and floated around for 15 minutes or so. Bone dry on the inside of the hull. I'm a little nervous about launching, etc. in super shallow conditions, but I guess I'll just be extra careful. Maybe even launch backwards (bow to the launch) so I'm not dragging that back part of the keel as badly.

Thanks again Trey. JerseyJoe made me a set of wheels this past spring that work great. After using them this summer, I would never want to be without them! Easier on the back and no more tearing up the bottom of the yak!
