Mrbean and I were fishing yesterday evening and wouldn't you know it, the fishing got better as it got darker. Needless to say we fished well past dark thirty and between the two of us we only had one headlamp and one Visicarbon Pro light. We were covered thankfully and made it back to the launch with no issues. Can you imagine if neither of us would have had a light and, heaven forbid, something tragic would have happened? Always carry a light with you in your kayak for those "just in case" times. Fish hard, but above all else, be safe!

I have ordered my visi carbon pro and have since put my headlamp back in my "safe pack". In the afwc tournament we were required to carry safety equipment. Everything from flares to a whistle. I ended up getting a Plano orange box and putting all of these items in it. I always bring it with me in the yak but I may have borrowed the head lamp from it for work. Oops, left me I'm the dark on a night I could have used it.

Does the visi pole light up the area around the yak or is it just for safety?

I was able to see everything in my kayak that night. I think Trey and I were both surprised at how much light it put out. We were also able to see the sandbar that we had to cross and the shrimp jumping along the edges of it. Definitely a good investment though!

Even though it has a diffuser on the light it is really bright. I could see mrbean and his yak good. For specific lighting and for better detail I recommend getting a headlamp (for re-tying, etc.) in addition to having the VisiPole light.
