Last week I went to Bass Pro and seen a combo they had for sale, the Penn Battle combo. I liked it and bought the 2000 reel on a 6'6" rod. Well crappy weather everyday had me throwing at a bucket in the yard. It threw nice for a few days but yesterday it started making a tick sound so I took that thing back quick. I knew when saltwater got to it that tick would have turned into feeling like sand inside the reel.
I got to looking around in Bass Pro at a few reels that were a class above the Battle. I ended up getting the Quantum Smoke 30 Inshore. I put it on a 6'9" fast action Penn rod. The combo is half the weight of the Battle combo and the reel is a larger series reel. It is so nice in my hands. I threw it in the yard a time or two already and its the best spinning rod I have ever threw. It will throw a 1/16 oz weight hook with a soft plastic a pretty long way. Just as long as an 1/8 or 1/4 on my other feirce reels with the inshore ugly stik. I can't wait to get it wet....I will post an update after I use it. Again its the nicest rod and reel I have ever thrown.

I had similar issue with the battle. Took it back. Messed with all the others and found a solid one. Since then I've hooked 50# cobias 15# tunas kings Spanish etc! Its been awesome! I wish I could swing a cabo tho! Wallet just isn't that deep this season though.
Let us know how the smoke does! Supposed to be awesome reel.
