I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for, or personal experience with, reasonably priced waterproof cameras? I need to get a decent one instead of risking my not-so-waterproof phone! Thanks, Kevin

There are some good ones out there and I am sure that others will pitch in with their suggestions, but for the money, I found a little Olympus that I have been extremely pleased with. Takes great photos (see the ones that I just posted in "Amelia Island Sleigh Ride". This one is fairly inexpensive and so far hasn't let me down. You can find them online for $90.00 to about $125.00. They have a whole line of more expensive ones, all depends on what you consider reasonably priced. Redbeard

I have a Pentax Optio W60, not so inexpensive. The Olympus cameras are really nice.

Another relatively inexpensive waterproof camera is the FujiPix. I got it at BestBuy for just over $100. It doesn't have as powerful of a zoom feature as some of the more expensive ones but it takes great pictures of your fish in the yak.

The last time Andrew went to Afghanistan - after ruining I don't know how many camera's on past tours) I got him the Olympus Stylus 770 SW - it is waterproof, sand proof, drop proof, crush proof - I mean this thing is TOUGH!!!
He used it for the whole year he was gone and now we have been using it for Kayaking, camping and while scouting hunting spots!!!!
He hasn't ruined it yet - and that truly is saying something!!
HTH! Lori

I have the Oly Stylus also and it works very well for ease of carry and use. I actually have 5 digi cams, LOL, Each with a specific purpose, and I find myself toting the Stylus most of the time now. Its just a good all around camera. If you really want to make your head spin with choices try here www.dpreview.com

I bought an Olympus Tough 13 months ago. It's not so tough anymore. It got fried due to water intrusion. It also never took consistent pics anyway. I just bought the new Sony TX5 and it takes awesome shots and has more usable features. It is expensive but you usually get what you pay for.

I get an e-newsletter from Digital Photography School that shares a lot of tips and reviews. They featured a review on what looks like a pretty good waterproof camera that, although is a little higher priced than the Olympus that I have, (somewhere in the mid $200.00 range) seems to be a good buy for the money, considering the features. It is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1. It is waterproof to 10 meters and is dustproof and shockproof, (dustproof might not be so handy with kayak fishing, but shockproof is definitely a desirable feature). I looked for a link, but since it was an email, didn't have one. Anybody interested, let me know and I will forward the review. Redbeard

I bought a Fuji Finepix Z33 WP back in March that has proven to be a fantastic, lightweight, shirt-pocket wonder. And speaking of phones, I have a Samsung Milspec phone that is waterproof, shockproof (15ft drop), and dustproof that works very well. I learned the hard way that I needed to acquire these types of items instead of repeatedly buying less appropriate stuff. The Fuji camera has taken all of my recent photos, including this one... ...and this one... I paid $150 for it at Wal-Mart.
