i really didnt know were to put this. so i put it here. why do i not see any mention of a first aid kit or a small air horn? i all ways carry one on my boat. you just never know when you are going to get a hook stuck in you or cutt by a knife or fishing line. and as for the horn its a great thing to have if your in trouble and is sure come in handy when that happens.

Can't tell you why you didn't see them, but a great idea on both of them to include them in your gear. A small first aid kit would definitely be a good thing to carry, I've seen several times when I wish that I had had one along. The air horn is something that I have preached about on posts on other sites about safety. I won't go into the whole story, but I got run over in a 19' center console while sitting at anchor at 1:00 am with all my lights on and a 300,000 candle power light in the water. NCkayaker, on the GKF site got ran over by a bass boat while in his kayak. Don't think it won't or can't happen to you! Keep an air horn within easy reach at all times when you are in your yak. I mean easy access, not in your basket behind you! You only have a split second most of the time to grab it to get the attention of a boater. Both items are good points and should be on everyone's yak. Thanks for bringing them up. Redbeard

I carry a 1st aid kit even when I'm beach/wade fishing...always. I have a bigger one in my boat bag. My white light (strobe and constant - waterproof) and whistle (waterproof) are on my lanyard. And I carry a VHF marine and weather radio in my boat bag.
I can't imagine why anyone would not have these things. At the risk of sounding like Yogi Berra, safety equipment is something you don't need until you need it...a total waste of money and space. But you WILL need it eventually. And you'll wish you had the very best of everything.
