How do you haul your kayak to the ramp? Do you haul differently when hauling long distances?
Locally I throw the yak in the back of the truck and throw a strap on at the tailgate, maybe adding a bungee near the cab. I also strap it on top of my Tahoe using rail pads that have a v-shape. Two straps and it's set and secure. When I go out of town, like when I go to the Boondoggle in a few days I'll strap the yak on top of the Tahoe like when I do locally. I will add my cable lock, an extra strap across the yak, and a bow line to the front of the vehicle. You can never be too secure.

i think i might be the only one that uses a trailer. i didn't have the rack on the back of the truck. so the next best thing for me to haul the kayak was get a trailer. even with the trailer and a big yellow kayak on it. i have had some close call with folks all most running into it. the one thing i like about having a trailer is you can keep it loaded and ready to go. i am all loaded up for a little pond fishing today. sorry about not meeting you today jim. darn documentary on giant squid pretty interesting show.

I just use the back of the truck. When I go on a road trip I use the tailgate extender and strap it down there.
