I have done really well with trout and flounder in a couple of spots, but haven't been able to connect with the redfish there. I saw where Guana Lake is featured in Florida Sportsman in the Northeast Regional report. I have been curious about this area for some time, but have never fished there. Any thoughts on this area? I will take any advice, gratefully, on catching reds in Jax that anybody can give. Redbeard

I've only done good at one spot in J-ville for reds, the place that JYJ takes visitors, other than that I haven't done good with any reds. Hopefully we'll find some.

Hey Guys.....Sorry but I was outta the house for awhile, but wanted to share some "Ideas" and some "recent" fishing info with you all, and will continue the do so thru the weekend and the first of the week!! (1) My first "idea" is that you all should check out the JKF Fishing Reports pretty much daily right now!! Altho the smarter/wiser/more serious guys will have developed "lockjaw" about now and do not share much, many of the newbies will still post what they caught, how, and pretty much where..at least the general area!! (2) 3Spots, that place that I took you is Oak Harbor and I have taken many people out there and it still treats me pretty well!! Last year, I opted to let the masses go out early and got to O/H about 11:00 AM to launch and there were about 16 cars/trucks that I knew were carrying kayaks in the parking lot already!! Many people were coming in as I was going out, but I still caught fish since I timed the tides to catch the last of the Outgoing and the first of the Incoming, and this year is almost the same: 5/8/2010 04:32AM 4.4 H 10:55AM 0.8 L 05:06PM 4.7 H 11:25PM 1.0 L (Those are Mayport near the ocean, but just add 30-40 minutes to them for next weekend!!) (2) Hey Ron!! Nice redfish ya got there!! Who took that picture?? LOL!!! That area we launched from on Heckscher Drive may be good again, but remember to NEVER launch and return from that area at Low Tide, or you will be sitting there! Been there, done that.... (3) RedBeard....RE: Guana Lake and River: The Guana Mgmt. just announced that the area near the dam that separates Guana Lake from Guana River will be under repairs and construction for about a month beginning this coming Monday...May 3rd!! Launching from the north ramp at Six Mile Landing should be possible, but the water has been VERY LOW up there for a few weeks, so I guess they were opening the dam to drain the lake and do that construction. Hopefully, launching from the Guana River side of the dam should be allowed and I prefer it actually!! Here is the thread from JKF from yesterday that has some verbiage from Mudfish about it: www.jaxkayakfishing.com/phpBB/topic21742.html(4) My last three trips were: (check the JKF "Fishing Spots") 4/18: Cedar Point Road and Horseshoe Creek....Mudfish and I caught over 30 bluefish (fun but not a target!!) and some dink trout, plus blk drum, whiting, croaker and trash fish, but NO reds or flounder!! (Shrimp and some DOA shrimp) www.jaxkayakfishing.com/phpBB/topic21627.html4/22 - Thurs: Oak Harbor (solo) and I got a Legal Slam..altho a small one!!! I did not post a report, but I caught a barely legal slam including a 22" redfish (and some rats), a 12.5" flattie, and a 15"+ trout.....but a 49.5" Slam won't win anything with 450+ people out there I do not think. (mudminnows and shrimp) 4/28 - Wed: O/Harbor (solo) and I got 3 trout to 19" and a 14" flattie, but I could not scare up the first red...not even a rat!! That 33" start would have been nice to add a 27" redfish to for a 60" Slam, and I might sign a "contract" for that Slam right now...LOL!!! All caught on Muds... This coming week, I have plans to fish Wed at Clapboard Creek, Thurs at Guana River, and Friday at Oak Harbor, and I would be glad to share anything I learn with you all, if you want? Sorry for the LONG post, but I hope it helps you all!! JohnYaksJax

Me, Rob and the GA gang will fish Friday somewhere (maybe Brown's or Cedar Point). Not sure about Saturday yet... but my gameplan is to have fun. I think that will be easily attained. John - I sure would like to land a Red like the one you put me on in that picture. Man, that was a blast. Probably wouldn't win anything but I'll take it right now.

Well, sad news today for me. I guess I will have to let you guys catch all the fish and bring home all the prizes from Jacksonville. We have a job that is running really tight finishing on time and I have to be here to work with my superintendent to make sure we complete on time. This is a very important job and, unfortunately, I have no choice other than to be here. Good luck!!!! Redbeard

DANG!!! Ricky, please say it ain't so..... ?? Don't you hate it when that nasty four letter word "W-O-R-K" gets in the way of life and having a good time?? Happens, and ya gotta take care of #1, which is YOU and your family!! We'll try to catch a few fish in your honor!! JohnYaksJax PS: Did you get any raffle tix in advance?? Or, since you paid already, somebody should be able to pick up your Capt. Bag and bring it back for you...and I "think" you had the VIP bag so you need your NICE Columbia shirt and you get 5 raffle tix too!! Can somebody get with Ricky on getting his stuff and getting it to him....and if nobody is close to him, I would be happy to do the same!!! JYJ

It is a long shot, but if certain things come together, I may be able to drive down Friday night. I have sent Kayak Mike a PM asking for permission to fish the tournament if I don't make the captain's meeting. Right now I wouldn't bet on being able to make it. John is going to p/u my bag and shirt in the event I don't get there. Thanks John! Redbeard

All I can say is WOW! Mike Kogan and his crew at JKF sure can put on a great tournament! It was good to see so many old friends and making some new ones. Although the Georgia crew came up a little short on tournament day, we had a great time (except for my unexpected vehicle break down/ maintenance) and was for a wonderful cause! I plan on attending next year and encourage as many of you as possible to do the same. This tournament isn't about raffle prizes or even winning (which wouldn't be all bad), it's about comarderie and supporting great causes. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

It was good to see Trey and Ricky at the Jax tournament. We all had a great time. The Jax Classic is an awesome event but Trey is right... its not just about fishing. Its being together with good friends and attending for a good cause. Can't wait to go again next year.

But I made it!!!!!! And boy was it worth it! I had a great time and more than anything else, got to enjoy spending time with some of the greatest folks in the world. And had a great day catching fish. Caught 15 trout, 5 were 16" (not monsters, but good fish for me!), a couple poor man's tarpon (ladyfish), a jack, and more stingrays and hardhead catfish than I want to tell about!!! Great day fishing!!!!!
This tournament is worth anybody taking time to participate in. Kayak Mike said it when he called it the world's biggest kayak fishing party!
I will post a few photos when I get time later today.
