THE CEDAR KEY KAYAK FISHING MASTERS TOURNAMENT
The town of Cedar Key, Florida is having its FIRST CEDAR KEY KAYAK FISHING MASTERS TOURNAMENT on Saturday, September 18, 2010, and it is a beautiful place to stay and kayak fish the Gulf of Mexico and the surrounding keys. If you want a family outing, it would make a perfect weekend trip since all the motels and cottages are right there on the island. It is a rustic little fishing village that is known all over the world for their clam industry.....think "Key West" about 25 years ago!!
The price will be $40.00 and that will include a Tourney T-shirt, Captain's Bag, raffle ticket, Clam Bake Dinner Saturday Night, and awards to the winners. It is a "Slam Tourney" for redfish, seatrout, and flounder.
It is a great fun area, and I just got back from my sixth trip over there!!
The Captain's Meeting will be on Friday, September 17, 2010.
IMPORTANT: Refund Policy: If the event must be canceled due to the oil spill, your Registration Fee will be refunded, less $10.00 for the T-Shirt. Your T-Shirt will be sent to you!!
Sadly, many of you may be looking for a place for a "September Saltwater Fix" and the location of Cedar Key "appears" that it will be spared by that disaster, but who knows at this point??

"Kayak Cedar Keys" is the local place for kayak rentals, scenic guided trips, and guided fishing trips. They are located downtown right on the water for a quick rental and launch (free!!) and there are some very nice fishing spots a short paddle from there. The manager is "Tom Yakker" who is about as friendly a person as you will ever meet!! Just click on his website below, and his email and number are at the bottom of the main page:

"TomYakker" also operates a very nice website named "Welcome to Cedar Key":

Pirate's Cove Cottages:
I just stayed at Pirate's Cove Cottages for the third time, and I already have reservations for Sept. 17-19th. Their six cottages have been newly refurbished with new carpet, new bath fixtures and all have new queen sized beds. The cottages are clean and quaint and the link below shows them outside and inside when you click on "Cottages". They get beautiful sunrises and sunsets both, and the backyard is the bayou, altho it is "tide sensitive". The owners, John and Donna O'Neal, are really nice people and are very helpful with your special needs or requests.

Low-Key Hideaway Motel & RV:
This is a very cute and small motel owned by Pat and Cindy Bonish, and they special people, and very helpful too!! The motel has only 5 rooms, and the RV has parking for 5 RVs, so that is a reason to call early for the September Masters Tournament.
Pat and Cindy have offered a 15% Discount to anyone who mentions JaxKayakFishing or references the Cedar Key Kayak Tourney!!

Camping is also close by at Shell Mound County Park, and my first two trips to Cedar Key we stayed in this park:

Fishing is also VERY GOOD right here!! Check the outstanding pix on this recent post:

For other local accommodations, see the Chamber of Commerce site below...
Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce: This new tournament is sponsored by The Cedar Key
Chamber of Commerce, and their website is a great place to find additional info regarding area attractions, places to stay, restaurants, and local services. The profits from the raffles will be donated to the Nature Conservatory due to the Oil Spill situation in the Gulf of Mexico. The Chamber website is a great source of area information:

Hope to see many of my kayak fishing friends over in Cedar Key in September!!
If you have specific questions that are not covered by these links, please feel free to send me a PM in here and I "should" get an email that I have a PM waiting....hopefully!!
