I am a big fan of DOA shrimp! I have caught countless trout on them and use it as my "go to" trout bait (even over live bait). I have plenty of witnesses as to the effectiveness of their performance. I prefer the Gold Glitter, Stark Naked, and Glow colors over the rest. I guess those colors are more of my confidence colors, but I usually have good success with them. The Glow color is good for trout, reds, and flounder. The DOA shrimp come pre-rigged on a hook with a belly weight, but you can modify them and rig them weedless or backwards. You can change the hooks, add or omit weight, or rig with a jighead for reds and flounder. Check them out at: www.doalures.com/

Im a big fan too. Do you dose'em with pro-cure?
I tried this stuff called the "shrimp stick". It looks like a big tube of chapstick or like a glue/paste stick. Got it at bass pro right next to the procure.
Goes on easy and stays on pretty well, since it just smears on. I even use it on my paddle tails. Ever use it?
If you prefer procure, do you have better luck with the shrimp or salt water formula?

Trey, what's your take on Gulp shrimp? I bought a bunch (like 15 packs) a while back because a small store was closing and had everything on clearance for 60-80% off. I had heard good things about them, so I figured I would stock up on them at such a great price.
I can't remember EVER catching a fish on them. I've had success on Gulp paddletails, grubs, etc., just not the shrimp for some reason.
I haven't used DOA shrimp very much, but sure have seen Jerseyjoe pull in some nice fish with them.

I usually just put it on my topewater lures.

Gulp shrimp have their place. My style of fishing here just doesn't incorporate them much. I use them when dead sticking for reds or whenever I fish Florida waters for reds, big trout, or flounder.

Reefdonkey, I certainly am no expert on any of the above, however, I have used Gulp shrimp quite a bit with success. Try using the three inch "newpenny" color under a popping cork. Fish it just like you would a live shrimp. I have seen times when it would outfish live shrimp!!!! The other way that I have done well is to use the same color on a jig head, walking it off the bottom. Works really well for flounder. A few years back, I was using the 4" grayish colored ones under a popping cork off a pier near Murrel's Inlet and was hooking bull reds regularly!!! Redbeard

I use the shrimp as it comes in the package, tied to a flourocarbon leader, using a twitch-twitch pause method or just letting it sink to the bottom and then slow rolling it back to the yak. I always initially let the shrimp go to the bottom. I vary my retrieve depending on the trout. Sometimes I use big twitches (letting the shrimp sink back down) and sometimes shorter (snappier) twitches.

You can also remove the belly weight in the DOA shrimp, Procure that Bad Boy and reinsert the weight..........it leaves a small scent trail that may just entice that bite!
