Hey guys, I was lucky enough to win a custom built rod in the raffle This is the perfect excuse to buy a new reel, and upgrade to a higher quality piece. Since moving to GA I have just been using my freshwater gear...and despite trying my best to clean them, they have gotten torn up by the salt water. I am willing to spend up to $200 or so for a high quality, corrosion resistant spinning reel. Looking for 2500 class. Right now it is between the Shimano CI4, Stradic FJ, or the Quantum Cabo. So the question is; What can you tell me about the quality/durability of these? or Would you have another recommendation to throw into the mix? Thanks!

Can not go wrong with Shimano!

I don't know the exact weight differance, but the CI4 seems a lot lighter than the FJ. I am leaning towards Shimano, probably the CI4...just threw in the Cabo because it is a little bit less expensive.
I'd love the Stella, but just can not justify spending that kind of money on a reel.

I have a Ci4 and FJ and I like them both. Some days I prefer the FJ, don't know why. The Ci4 is lighter. I have had 2 FJ's now for 2 1/2 years and haven't had to open them up to clean them yet. They are very sturdy and reliable. I just rinse them off with the hose after each fishing trip. Make sure you rinse the rod off too, the eyes really like that! Can't go wrong with the Shimano s (like TR said).

Thanks,
I always rinse the rods guides and all. Just need something built to handle the salt.
My favorite Pflueger worked flawlessly for 6yrs in freshwater in PA; now after 1 yr around salt it cranks hard and slow (of course that only started to happen on SAT around 10am). I am hoping to be able to open it up, clean and re-lube it to get it back in shape.
The new custom rod requires a nice reel! I am upgrading the rod to premium titanium guides and customizing with: "Jersey Joe" on one side and "CGKF" on the other!
Can you swap out the round crank knob on the CI4 for an oblong? I don't like the feel of the round one.
