Rookie question here; have seen several photos of fish gripped with orange fish lip-grippers.
Are there any types that are preferred and less damaging for catch and release fishing?
Are they needed or will some sort of glove suffice, or maybe not needed but nice to have?

Fish grippers are finger savers ;D most all of the saltwater species have sharp teeth. gloves are fine for some and definately help in controlling the squirming fish for pics and to help revive for release. As far as the type of gripper thats up to you. The plastic ones are popular because they are less expensive than the boga style and they float. Its a matter of personal preference really but a worthwhile investment.
