I've been wanting to take up fly tying for a long time, but just haven't been able to take time to learn. I finally broke down and bought a vise and some supplies and the guy at the shop where I got my supplies was kind enough to take the time to teach me how to get started tying a Clouser deep minnow. Had to have something to do while sitting in a hotel room when working out of town since watching television is a total wast of time! Needless to say, I have been bitten by the bug!!! The good thing about taking up tying is that I will now dedicate more of my time to fly fishing, another thing that I have been wanting to do more of, since I will need to use some of the flies that I tie. Here are a couple of shots of my first effort. Can't wait to try some more patterns. I figured the Clouser would be a great place to start, since that is what I am using most of the time when I do fly fish. Getting started. Now I have a reason to save my deer tails!!! First Clouser!!!!

I started tying about seven years ago and really enjoy it too. That is a fine looking clouser, I'll take 3 in that color and 3 in black......thank you.
I will post a recipe for an epoxy spoon fly that is easy and deadly. If you can't find the materials I'll send you some. It's a fun fly to tie and the epoxy is fun to work with. The design comes from Texas somewhere.

That's great for a first tie!! The first flies I tied looked like they belonged in some very low budget sci-fi film. Nothing beats the feeling of catching fish on flies you tied yourself in my opinion. Tight lines

yep you are most certainly in trouble now. wait until you want to get into doing your on jigs. i will send you some fly tying web sites that i like to look at and learn. when i order my stuff i try to get it local. but with bass pro here they have some stuff. so i have to do the mail order thing. and my favorite place for that is www.jsflyfishing.com, pretty reasonable prices to. i do know that there are some fly tying shops up your way.i just need to find some time to get back at it. you will have more stuff than you know what to do with before you know it. i have one fly that is a killer on bream its called the Briminator. very deadly on bream and crappie. oh yeah look on you tube a ton of fly tying vids.

Thanks for the compliments!!! I tied another Clouser last night in black, with copper orange flashabou on the top, much better quality second time in the wrapping. Redfish candy!!! Hopefully, I will get to graduate to tying some shrimp patterns soon. I always talk about using the fly rod at Jax when we go down for the Classic. If the wind isn't too bad, I will definitely be giving it a shot this year! Redbeard
