You were poor and could only afford one rod (maker, model, length, action) and one reel (preferable spinning) to fish inshore and along the beaches, which would you choose?

Wish I could give an easy answer to the question. Fact is, I wouldn't use the same rod & reel setup for inshore and beach fishing. If I was poor, I'd use whatever was cheapest just so I could fish. Of course I'd have to replace my equipment after a while and constantly do maintenance on it. If I was smart and poor, I'd save my money and get something with some quality to it. I use Shimano Terramar rods (7 1/2' medium) coupled with Shimano Stradic 2500 or 3000. I've used this setup for years and rinse them off after every trip and have to do little to no maintenance. For the beach, I use a simple setup for shark and bulls. I use a 7' Penn Slammer rod with a Penn Sargus 5000 or 6000. Truth is.....I'd use a Sponge Bob rod & reel if that's all I had and wanted to go fishing.

Can't go wrong with an Ugy Stick and a Penn Reel. Truth is, if I really wanted to get an outfit or two on a limited budget, I would (and have in the past) go to a couple of pawn shops and find a couple of decent rigs to get started, negotiate a cheap price, make sure they are in good working order, put fresh line on them and go fishing!!! Then pick out some better gear and start saving nickels and dimes until you can do better!!! I caught a ton of fish on pawn shop rigs when the budget was tight. Redbeard
