Several years ago I began kayak fishing after knowing only one other guy doing it. I was hooked, pun intended. I had a 10 foot sit on top kayak that I had been using over the years for exercise, I rigged it with a rod holder and made stuff fit where I could. As I became more experienced I upgraded to other fishing specific kayaks. The kayak fishing industry flourished and kayaks kept getting better and better for different fishing situations, different anglers, and offered various seating and storage. Stability and speed have also become an important feature in a quality fishing kayak. Combining the two to form an ultimate fishing machine has been a great battle for manufacturers to give fishermen what they need.
3 weeks ago I received what I believe to be that ultimate fishing machine, the Jackson Kayak Cuda. Fairly new to the kayak fishing world, Jackson Kayak has opened many kayak fishermen's eyes with their Drew Gregory inspired Coosa. Jackson Kayak, which is full of accomplished fishing team members lead by Drew Gregory and their JK staff invisioned a better kayak fishing experience for other fishermen outside of the Coosa (river fishing) world. With their research and development completed they introduced the JK Cuda. The Cuda; a 14 foot kayak that offers stability, speed, useful storage, and innovative seating is a fishing kayak that can be used in many fishing venues.
Being 6'02" tall and 250 lbs., I have been asked many times about the stability of the Cuda while standing and paddling from the high seat position. No worries my friends, I've paddled in the high seat position in smooth to moderate choppy coastal waters without the least bit of instability. I have stood, using the stand assist strap, with ease and paddled flats and casted to unsuspecting fish without going swimming.
The Cuda has ample storage that encompasses a front hatch, a midship rod/ stake out pole stow hatch, and a rear hatch. There is a rod tip hood at the bow that enables the fisherman to tuck in their rod tips to avoid snags on docks, grass or other rod tips. The rod stagers keep rods separated and ready to pick up and use without any issues. The seat, oh Wow, the seat is an awesome feature. First displayed on the Coosa, the seat can be configured in many positions: low (like many kayak fishing seat platforms), high (enabling the fisherman to see more features in the water), and you can move it completely out of the way (to stand and cast uninhibited or you can take it with you to sit on during that break on land), did I mention that it's super comfortable? The Cuda features several rod/ stake out pole bungees that keep your items ready to use yet secure.
The Jackson Kayak Cuda, the ultimate kayak fishing machine for speed, stability, comfort, versatility, storage, and fishibility. Here is the Jackson Kayak site so you can see their full line of kayaks, read/ watch other Cuda reviews, and see what's coming next. www.jacksonkayak.com
