I've read 1 independent review and this one already. I'll tell you my initial impressions from this first wave of "1st impressions."
1. I'm SOOOO glad to see the JKF team guys putting up pics with PFDs on! It's amazing how much mfg-sponsored media is out there full of poor safety messages...mostly in the form of images.
2. I'm not hip on the rod tip protector thing with a fly rod. It keeps a lot of stress on the first couple of sections of a 4-piece rod or tip section of a 2-piece rod. I also want to know if that part is removable or permanently affixed, because it sure would be difficult to clean in there if you can't take it off.
3. Otherwise, it looks like a GREAT boat for in-shore fishing!

Ken, agreed about the media/ PFD spot. As a team we are encouraging the use of PFD wearing when kayaking/ kayak fishing, even ourselves. I am still waiting on my Cuda, so I have to go with others reviews for now. I like the idea of the rod tip cover, but understand your concerns. The folks at JK are listening to suggestions and are working to get the Cuda where it needs to be. I'm not certain if the cover is removeable or not. Don't think it is at this point.

I love the idea of the rod tip cover. I just know a lot about fly rods and how they get broken through abuse and stress over time. I also know how hard "nooks and crannies" are to clean on boats, especially in a marine environment. But I also know how hard it is to mfg a part like that so that it is removable for cleaning and won't fall off when you don't want it to after a year or two of use. Everything is a trade/compromise, but Jackson is very innovative. So I'm curious about this particular part. BTW, I hope you didn't get the red swirl. It looks like crap.

I'm getting the Yellow Jacket color and then I'll get the lowland camo after the first of the year.

I'm getting the Yellow Jacket color and then I'll get the lowland camo after the first of the year. Good choices. The red is too dark to blend with that flat black they're using. The thing looks depressing instead of fun.

From what I've seen, Jackson is Looking at a way of attaching a removable rod tip protector! So you could have your cake and eat it too,

I'm digging the rod tip protector. It's such a hassle when fishing the grass to have your fly rod constantly catching and getting caught in spartina. I made a bucket with cutouts to serve as stripping basket and rod holder. Works ok but the tip protector would be a much better solution.
