If you are comfortable with doing a beach launch, pick up a permit to drive on the beach and launch from America's Beach, the last public beach area before Amelia Island Plantation. If the pogie pods (menhaden schools) are schooling just off the beach, you will be in luck. Snag what you need for live bait and put one out with a weighted line and pull it around and through the pods. It is a little early, but if the tarpon are there, hang on!!! You may pick up anything from bull reds to kings, to tarpon, and expect to hook up with blacktips, spinner sharks, and bull sharks as well. Hang on for the sleighride!!! If none of that is for you, you can fish Eagan's Creek on the north end of Fernandina for trout, redfish, and flounder. Dee Dee Bartels ramp is at the north end, as well and is a great place to launch to fish some big water behind Fernandina, lot of bull reds around that area. On the south end, you can park and drag your yak over the sand to the water at the parking area on the left at Nassau Sound. Great fishing there, especially around the bridges and docks. The trout can be really thick around the bridge. The world record flounder was caught from the fishing bridge there. Going on toward Jacksonville, you have Simpsons Creek and all the area north of Heckscher Drive. Good luck and be sure to post up some reports and photos. Redbeard
