Being on the Finfish Advisory Panel for Coastal DNR, we are always talking about what is in the best interest for the future of all of out fisheries. In an effort to enhance discussions and have the voice of our fishermen at the table I want to ask what your opinion is. For speckled trout and redfish: should size limits be changed? Current for trout, 13"- no upper and reds, 14"-23". Florida and South Carolina's lower slot is 15". Should the possession limits be the same or change? Current for trout is 15 per person per day, reds - 5 per person per day. The big question is, is our limits sustaining for future quality and quantity of targeted fish? Be as general or specific as you want. Thanks

I know I can look it up but the slot for SC and Fla for reds is different from ours for what reason? And also why the difference in trout? Just wondering as I have no opinion one way or the other till I get some education on the matter. I release reds in Ga and keep very few in Fla.

I say drop trout down to 10 per day and reds to at most 3 per day. The reds slot size should minimize a little as well. Raise it to 16-23. You could still limit out on reds and trout. Oh and raise trout to 16 inches and put more dnr in or near the water checking limits. In 2 years I believe if people were following rules we could have waters just like east coast florida

Let's here from more of you. The more input we get, the better informed we are as to what the general concensus is. I don't want to relay what I feel or want, I want to relay what the fishermen's thoughts are as a whole. Thanks!

Well, I've never had to worry about going over the limit on trout! I think the lower slot should be raised to at least 15" on Reds as it is here in SC. We rarely catch them under the 14-15" range and I couldn't imagine keeping one that size anyway. I agree with raising the size limit on trout to 16 inches. The amount of meat you get off of a 13 inch trout is hardly worth killing it and the impact to the fishery.

I believe there should be a slot on trout so the females with row can spawn drop bag limit to 10 per day 15 inch min we have decent size trout here. Reds 15" min that is all for me.

Not living near the coast and therefore not getting to fish there very often, I am not sure how much my opinion is worth on this issue, but I will give it anyway. When I was working in Texas, the slot for reds was 17" - 27", limit 3. It worked very well there, they have one of the most successful redfish fisheries anywhere. Different waters and different fish, but by raising the slot, it compensates lowering the limit. At least if someone wants to carry home some fish, it helps. As far as trout, I don't see the limit being an issue, however, with respect to those living on the coast that differ, I would not object to lowering the limit to 10 fish, only one of which could exceed 20", and a minimum length of 15". These would be reasonable limits and length restrictions that would help preserve the breeding stock and numbers while allowing those such as myself that enjoy harvesting a few fish for the table. I can go with more of what redbeard has except I would have the limit of redfish at 5
