Present Status; Southwest Coast: Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected in background concentrations in one sample collected alongshore of Pinellas County and in one sample collected inshore of Sarasota County. Other samples collected in southwest Florida this week did not contain K. brevis.
Present Status; Northwest Coast: Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was not detected in a sample collected this week offshore of Levy County.
Present Status; East Coast: Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was not detected in water samples collected this week in the Indian River Lagoon (Brevard County) or alongshore of St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties.
Tables and maps of sample results are available on our Web site: (myfwc.com/research/redtide/events/status/statewide/).
The website also provides links to additional information related to the topic of Florida red tide including satellite imagery, experimental red tide forecasts, shellfish harvesting areas, the FWC Fish Kill Hotline, the Florida Poison Information Center (to report human health effects related to exposure to red tide), and other wildlife related hotlines: (http://myfwc.com/research/redtide/events/status/contact/).
