Hello CGKF Users, I am relatively new to the kayak fishing world and wanted to get some advice on whether or not I should invest in a new fishing kayak or a used fishing kayak. I know if I buy a new one, i can have the peace of mind that everything is good to go and everything will last. I am also thinking that if I buy a used one, I could save the extra cash and buy some upgraded fishing equipment. I found this one for sale - www.kayaktrader.com/kayak-malibu-x-factor/ but not sure if I should drop a grand on a used boat. Would it be more wise to just put the extra $$ towards better fishing gear? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

An X factor is a good kayak. Make sure the bottom doesn't have too much oyster rash and the scupper holes are good. I always tell everyone to buy within their budget, but leave room for accessories. Or you can save more $ for the accessories.

I'm in the same boat man. Really don't want to spend the mother load on a new yak being fresh in the sport but also would rather have that new smell and maybe even a warranty! These guys have almost talked me out my Hyundai, lol and into something a little cooler. Been eyeing the Cuda 12 and Moken 12.5 the last day or so.
With the money aspect... Fishing is one of those sports where you can always have something better, cooler, newer, shinier! 3spots is a wise man advising us to buy within our budgets but like anything else you want to buy a piece of mind. Don't throw 1k at something then wish you would have spent the extra couple hundred and got a new one a few days later. I think I am just going to bite the bullet and get it right the first time. If I wind up not liking it or even worse not liking the sport (doubtful) then they hold value pretty good from what I have seen and should be a quick resale.

Well put Stavely. If you want a Moken, check out Savannah Canoe & Kayak. Tell Nigel that I (CGKF) referred you. He's a good guy.

Just go ahead and get a Hobie, you won't regret it. Even if you spend double, you will get double if you want to sell it.

It is better to invest in new kayak. As it is more beneficial for a number of year. The new models of kayak are using latest machinery and technology which is easy to handle and control.

I got mine used for Trey (3spots) and haven't had any trouble with it, also looking at the one that Troutman has up for sale for the wife. Just make sure it's in good shape.

Yooper, Mine is in Great Shape,( ask Trey how Anal i am about cleaning my boats) it just has normal oyster rash and scratches here and there but has always been kept inside out of the sun. With that being said, I would'nt just settle for anything, or else in two months when you see something sles that excites youll be breaking back out the check book. Shop around and paddle a few, just because their pretty, dont mean the fit your needs.
