I am not new to fishing but am just trying to get into kayak fishing and am confused by all of the information out there . I have started my search for a kayak and am wondering if I am better off spending $500-700 on a new boat, spend $300-400 on a used boat of the same quality or spend $500-700 on a higher quality used boat. Is there much chance of hidden damage to a used boat? My upper limit on a boat will be $700 but needless to say, if I can get into a boat for much less than that, I can spend more on outfitting it!!! I appreciate any input any of you may have.

I always go with " you get what you pay for ". Having said that, $500-$700 will get you a good used or a decent new kayak. You can always upgrade later on and sell your kayak. Inspect the bottom for deep gashes and check the scupper holes for any cracks. Ask the owner of any issues. Hopefully they'll be honest. A couple of us are good at plastic welding.
Good luck.

I agree with Trey, However..... I'm the buy what you want the first time and save yourself money in the long run type guy. Once you get Out on the water in a 300$ Yak, you'll want that 600$ yak then the 1000$ yak. My opinion is if you have them money, run to Jacksonville they have several try before you buy stores and paddle or peddle a yak before you buy something you end up upgrading within the year. Trey knows of a brand new Yak at a great price!

I don't need an option, I have a yak, but if you have a deal on the yak.... You might want to post on it.... Sold pending payment!

Must apologize to Troutman. I wasn't trying to upset anyone, just trying to steer "newbie" away from the Cuda since Trey and I are meeting up as soon as he can get things arranged. Looking forward to the pick-up this week!

No hard feelings, just trying to steer a "newbie" in the direction of a nice Kayak at a good price

I agree with you about the great deal. That's why I couldn't turn it down, despite fishingwithblue's comment about the paint job. Decided that I've got to embrace the color scheme and tell myself that it looks like an angelfish, so how can that be so bad? My experience with angelfish is that tend to be pretty aggressive. Bet they'd put up a heck of fight if you hook one that was big enough!

That paint job has started to grow on me.......I was going to buy it if you didn't! I was going to name it "TEAM UGLY DUCKLING" It's really not that bad...... ;D Good luck with the boat, I can't wait to get mine .....some day.

Your initial comments didn't discourage me. It did make me think that I am going to be living with this kayak for a long time, so better be "all in" on the color scheme. I've rationalized that I'm buying a fishing craft, and the fish won't care what it looks like (their side looks mottled rather than striped anyway).
Can't wait to get mine either... Trey says we're close.
