Anybody on here actually turkey hunt? The season is coming up. I'd like to do it, but I don't need another addiction. I cured myself of turkey hunting years ago, wasn't easy.

I've been bit by the bug... I enjoy all types of hunting whether it is at sea or on land but no other type of hunting involves the interaction that takes place with the predator and the prey... the drumming, scratching, gobbling, etc. Looking forward to another season

now trey weren't you and kevin teasing me about my turkey log at the m&g last month. yep i do and its my other addiction. and yeah its coming up real fast got to make sure my 20ga is on target. i got new place to hunt and need to get out and find the roosting areas and strut zones. i hope to make road trip to perry next month for the turkeyrama but that's up in the air right now, got bit by the bug way back in 1991 and have a blast doing it every spring. i to like to here the drumming and gobbling especially when you have one coming in from your calling. it sure does get your heart in your throat when it happens. yep its an addiction all right

I've never turkey hunted. But this season will be my first. I have seen plenty out at Ft. Stewart in my scouting travels, and I'm ready to try and kill one.

Yes, they are everywhere on Ft. Stewart! Careful, it is another very addicting sport!

I have always wanted to take it up. I always heard that it is a worse addiction than almost any other thing that I do. I even bought a bunch of diaphragm calls and practiced while I was driving back and forth to work, listening to a tape. Really got good with the different calls. Never did give it a try. I really enjoy seeing them while deer hunting. The season just comes around at the wrong time of year. I am going fishing in the spring if I have time to do anything!!!!

Went out yesterday morning on Stewart. Had 2 toms and some hens come in to my calls around 8am. I didn't have a decoy, so they cruised by about 70 yards out. Tried to stalk them after they passed and get them to turn back to me, but they spooked and flew off.
I'm going to visit a buddy of mine in tallahassee next weekend, but the following weekend it is on.

Anybody that gets a turkey that doesn't mind pulling a few feathers, shoot me a pm when you get one. I would like to get a baggie or two full of feathers for tying. I will gladly pay the postage to have them sent to me. Just stick them in the freezer until they get mailed!!!

Be sure to tell him congratulations!!! That is a nice tom. Anybody that scores on a tom deserves to be congratulated! I would love to take up turkey hunting, but I have been warned, and I know that if I did, I would be hooked!!! I am sure it is a lot like duck hunting in that once it gets in your blood, you want to be there just to hear them and see them whether or not you ever get a shot!!! I used to duck hunt and when I did, I was addicted! I wanted to be out in the swamp at daylight or dark just to see them fly and call to them just to see if I could turn them to me. It didn't matter whether or not I ever fired a shot!!! Loved it. I just don't have the time for that kind of addiction anymore, I can't get time enough to catch up on my fishing, much less take up turkey hunting.
As far as feathers, I will take whatever I can get. I am not good enough yet to know the difference, but would like to have some to use when tying. Breast, wing, tail, any of them will be appreciated. From what I have read about collecting feathers, it would be best to bag them and freeze them for a few days before sending them to help kill off any bugs in them. I will wash them to preserve them and kill off any organisms once I get them (already read up on what to do in a fly tying magazine). If you do send some, I will send whatever the postage costs back, plus a few flies if I learn to tie with them. Right now, I am still tying clouser minnows, shrimp patterns, and seaducers. Still learning!!! Will gladly tie up a few of what I am tying and send them to you, but you probably are much better and experienced than me at it!!!
Thanks!!! Redbeard

Hey Redbeard..do you have any use for squirrel tails? There is about to be a massacre at my house because they keep messing with my garden.

Thanks for the offer, but if they get in my tomato plants again this year like previous years, I will have plenty!!!!! There will be a small war here! I swear one was sitting on a crosstie near the street last year holding one of my nice ted tomatoes waiting for me to drive by so he could wave at me before sitting there and eating it!
